About Us

As long ago as the early 1980s, the handful of British and other expats living in the Gandia area at that time were getting together for informal meals and other activities. As time went by and numbers increased, the idea of a formally constituted social club took root and in due course, on 29th May 1989 to be exact, the Gandia Area Social Club came into being under statutes laid down by the Internal Affairs Department of the Valencian government. (A comprehensive Club history can be found at HISTORY of GASC)

Club members meet every Thursday evening (except for a three week break around Christmas) for dinner and entertainment activities such as dinner dances to live music, trivia quizzes, karaoke etc. The Club´s headquarters since early 2006 has been Restaurante Viva España on the N332 trunk road near Oliva.

Away from the Thursday dinner gatherings, regular outside activities include country walking, petanca and rastros. The club also organises ad hoc outings to places of local interest.

The Club´s business is conducted according to the Spanish legislation governing registered clubs and societies in the Valencian region. Under these an Annual General Meeting is convened to discuss Club policy and activities and to elect the President and Committee, usually for three-year terms. The Committee meets monthly and is responsible for the day-to-day running of Club affairs.

The official constitution of the Club is supplemented by a number of Committee by-laws which have evolved over the years. See the link: Club Rules.

New members, or guests contemplating membership, are always welcome. The joining fee is 7 euros, the membership year runs from 1st February to 31st January. A Membership Application Form can be viewed and printed off at this link: Membership Form. After completion of all details, the form and appropriate fees may be brought along to Rte Viva España on a Thursday dinner evening for the attention of the Membership Secretary or paid direct to our bank) and then emailing details to moc.liamg@EETTIMMOCCSAG
